Generally speaking, there are two types or variations of the online casino game, roulette. These are the French and American roulette. Indeed, they are different but the rules that govern the game is pretty much the same. Their only difference lies on the wheels that they use.

The American roulette has number 00 in it, whereas French roulette would only have 0.

Roulette’s mechanics

Roulette is a game of chance. The primary equipments that it uses are the wheel and the roulette table. It is in the table where the players place their bets.

To start off, the wheel is turned and the ball is dropped in the opposite direction. In order to win, players need to determine whether the ball would fall on a single number or number range.

Players may also guess whether the ball would fall into an even or odd number or a particular color— red or black.

The bets

Several types of bets can be made in roulette. This is also true for online roulettes. These are the following:

  • Straight up – Players can bet on one number. This is done via placing the chip on top of the chosen number
  • Split – Player chooses two numbers. To do this, chips must be placed on the line that divides or separates the numbers.
  • Corner – A corner bet means that the player is betting on four numbers. Here, it does not necessarily mean that the chip is literally placed in the corner. Rather, the chip can be seen on top of points where the four numbers meet.
  • Street – If the player chooses to bet on three numbers, he is making a street bet. The chip should be carefully placed at the edge or boundary of the chosen row.
  • Five – Players can actually bet on five numbers. However, this is limited to 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. To do this, put the chip on the edge of the line that divides 0 and 1.
  • Line – In essence, a line bet means making two street bets or in simpler terms, betting on 6 numbers. Under this context, chips should be placed at the edge of the line that carries the six chosen numbers.
  • Column – At the bottom part of the roulette table, there are three boxes containing 2 to 1. A player placing his chips in any of these boxes means that he is betting for all the numbers included in the column.
  • Dozen – There are three more boxes that roulette players should know. Boxes labeled with 1st 12, 2nd 12 and 3rd 12 are allotted for dozen bets. Implied by the name dozen, a player is betting on 12 numbers.
  • Red/black, even / odd and high/ low – When these bets are made, 18 numbers are covered by the bet. Boxes with labels such as 1 to 18 and 19 to 36 are spared for high/low bets.

Losing numbers

Always remember this, during column, dozen and red/black bets, 0 and 00 are losing numbers.
